Important Note from SMS regarding StreamLine support:
As of May 2023, StreamLine Support is recommending Actian Zen v15, though Zen v14 is also a viable option. If you are using an older version of PSQL, you may wish to consider making plans to upgrade to a newer release, as PSQL v11 became unsupported as of July 1, 2016, PSQL v12 became unsupported as of July 1, 2019, and PSQL v13 became unsuipported as of December 31, 2022.
The StreamLine application uses the Zen/PSQL database engine to provide high-speed access to your data. At this time, SMS does not sell this software directly, but rather they refer users to resellers such as Goldstar Software to obtain the correct licenses. We have worked with SMS for many years and are in an excellent position to help you get your software installed and running quickly.
Installation of the Zen database engine is easy -- download the installer from Actian's web site & follow the prompts, then reboot. That's about it! You can find complete instructions for downloading and installing here. Of course, if you need help, we're here for you, too.
If you have a small site with fewer than 5 concurrent users, then the Workgroup Engine (WGE) will be your cheapest option. You will need a license for the number of concurrent users that will be accessing the database, at a cost of $100 per user. The database engine and the license goes onto the SERVER, or the computer on which your data directory resides. All other computers get the Zen Client installed to them.
If you need more than 5 concurrent users (now or in the near future), or if you want additional performance and OS security, then you will want to instead go with a server-class engine. The Zen Enterprise Server engine is licensed based on concurrent user counts (of 6, 10, 20, 35, and more), or you can consider the Zen Cloud Server license model instead, which offers the same core database engine with licensing based on data size only (and unlimited users). Server engines require the use of a Windows
server-class operating system (i.e. Windows Server) for best operation. SMS does not currently support the use of either server engine on a workstation-class OS (7/8/10). We also recommend making sure that you meet the PSQL Pre-Requisites list on your network before upgrading.
For pricing, please refer to our price list for Zen v14, which also has a tool called the Product Selector that can help you figure out exactly what you need, or just call us for an exact quote!
Actian PSQL v11 was released in 2010, and is a paid upgrade from older versions. PSQLv11 is the best platform if you are still running any Windows XP Workstations, and it is fully supported by SMS at this time. Note, though, that PSQL v11 has been discontinued and is unsupported by Actian. Please note that PSQLv11 software will NOT run on Windows 2000 or older, and it has never been tested nor supported on Windows 10, so if you have REALLY old or new computers, you may want to upgrade first. Current users of PSQLv11 should apply the v11.30 Service Pack 3 and the v11.31 Final Update patch for the best results.
Actian PSQL v12 was released in 2014, and is a paid upgrade from older versions. PSQLv12 is the best platform if you still have Windows Vista, and is fully supported by SMS at this time. Please note that PSQLv12 software is NOT supported on Windows XP or older, so sites with older computers may need to upgrade their operating systems first. Current users of PSQLv12 should apply the v12.10 Service Pack 1 and the v12.11 Final Update patch for the best results.
Actian PSQL v13 was released in 2017, and is a paid upgrade from older versions. PSQLv13 requires your workstations to be Windows 7 or newer, and v13.10 and above releases are fully supported by SMS at this time. Please note that PSQLv13 software is NOT supported on Windows Vista or older, so sites with older computers may need to upgrade their operating systems first. Current users of PSQLv13 should apply the v13.30 R2 (Also known as Service Pack 3) and the latest v13.31 Update patch for the best results.
Actian Zen v14 was released in 2019, and is a paid upgrade from older versions. Zen v14 is the best platform if all of your workstations are Windows 7 or newer, or if your server is Server 2012 or newer. Please note that Zen v14 software is NOT supported on Windows Vista or older, so sites with older computers may need to upgrade their workstation operating systems first.
Actian Zen v15 was released in 2021, and is a paid upgrade from older versions. Zen v15 is the best platform if any of your workstations are Windows 11 or newer, or if your server is Server 2022 or newer. We also recommend Zen v15 if you are installing a new server with SSD drives. Please note that Zen v15 software is NOT supported on Windows 7 or older, so sites with older computers may need to upgrade their workstation operating systems first.

There are a few points of interest:
- Performance Tip: If you are running an older database and have never upgraded the file versions, you can rebuild your database files to take advantage of even more performance gains. See our white
paper on this topic for more information.
- Status Code 161 After Installation: If you are getting a Status 161 (Licensing Error) after installing PSQL, then your database license may not be properly applied. On the database server, start the PSQL License Administrator (which you'll find in the Start/Programs/Actian PSQL programs group) and check the license count showing on this screen. If you do not see a permanent license with the correct user count, then you will need to apply your license. See your invoice or packing slip for your Product Activation Code, and enter this string into the box provided, then click "Add License". You should then see the proper license count.
- Disaster Recovery Options: Protecting your mission-critical data is of the utmost importance. Would you like some extra protection for your database, including near-realtime replication? Our Carbonite backup and replication solutions can help protect your data and minimize downtime and data loss in the event of a disaster or hardware failure.
If you need help with installing or patching your database engine, Goldstar Software also provides update services via the Internet for a fixed fee. See our Installation Services page for more details. If you are running PeachTree Accounting, then we strongly recommend using our installation services, as PeachTree can make installing a bit more of a challenge.
If you are a software vendor and would like to add, remove, or modify your information on these pages, we'll be happy to oblige. Simply contact us directly!
